What is the difference between them and should we upgrade our phone with custom rom or not?

To upgrade the Android version of your smart phone, you must have searched on Google that How To Upgrade kitkat Version to Lolipop, Marshmallow to Nougat and Oreo or if your phone's version is Lollipop then you may have thought of upgrading to Marshmallow or if your phone has Marshmallow Android version then you might have thought of upgrading to Nougat but the way you are told on the internet to upgrade a phone is mostly from custom ROMs and not stock ROMs so let's know what is the stock ROM and custom ROM and what is the difference between them.

What is Stock ROM ?

Stock ROM is an original ROM that is pre-installed in your phone such as KitKat Android version, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Oreo or whatever your phone has installed, we call it as Stock ROM. This is basically an original ROM when you get a new phone, with this, whichever Android version you get in your phone is called Stock ROM. This ROM is made by Google company and there are very few chances that you will get any kind of bug or error in it, If any bug or error is found in it then Google fixes that error and sends you updates.

What is Custom ROM ?

Custom ROM (A third party ROM) is created by any developer that you install in your mobile on your own (to install it, you have to root your phone first) everything you get in this ROM is customized means developers who make these custom ROMs make changes in their operating system according to their own and upload it for downloading on the Internet, now in such custom ROMs there can be any kind of error or bug and in most custom ROMs you have an error or problem of a function so in custom ROM you will get many errors and bugs and once you install this ROM, you cannot fix these errors or bugs and then you will have to install another ROM, while in stock ROM, you don't get all of these errors. Stock ROM is an original ROM which is developed by the developers of Google company which is error free means there won't be any bug or error in it so now let's know the difference between these two ROMs.

Difference between Stock ROM and Custom ROM

  • Stock ROM is made by the developers of Google company which we can also call original ROM while custom ROM is made by any developer who knows coding.
  • Stock ROM keeps the warranty of a phone while if you install a custom ROM then the warranty of your mobile will be terminated.
  • In stock ROM you have very few chances that you will get any error or bug in it (even if there is a bug, Google fixes it and sends you updates) while in custom ROM any developer makes changes according to their own, so you get a lot of errors and bugs in it and once it's installed you cannot fix the errors.
  • Stock ROM is made by Google so we can rely on their security while custom ROMs can be made by anyone so their security cannot be trusted.
  • In stock ROM you cannot uninstall inbuilt Android apps which are pre-installed but in custom ROM you can uninstall any kind of apps.
  • In stock ROM you cannot customize font style whereas in custom ROM you can customize any font and its style.
  • Stock ROM is safe while if you install a custom ROM then it can cause your phone to be brick or even dead if you install the wrong ROM.
